According to The Sun, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola believes his side have won the race to sign Everton centre-back John Stones.
The report claims that Manchester United, Chelsea and City are in the hunt to sign the £50million-rated defender but the latter are confident the player is set for a move to the Etihad Stadium this summer.
City are in the market for a new defender this summer to partner Vincent Kompany with question marks hanging over the future of Eliaquim Mangala, Nicolas Otamendi and Jason Denayer.
Everton’s John Stones has been heavily linked with an exit in the past, with Chelsea reportedly close to signing him last summer until finally staying at Goodison Park after a drawn out transfer saga.
The young England international has all the attributes to play for a top club, yet his performances over the past 12 months have been inconsistent as the Toffees struggled in the Premier League.
Nevertheless, City are seemingly desperate to add him to their ranks this summer as his ability to play the ball out from the back will be seen as a key asset to Pep Guardiola’s new look side.
The 22-year-old is currently in the England squad for the European Championships in France, and it will likely be once the tournament has finished when observers learn of his new destination.
Everton would ideally want to keep him on board, yet with so much interest from England’s top clubs they will find it extremely hard to resist any big-money offers with the player himself looking to make the step up.
