Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel has barely featured for AC Milan this season.
According to the latest reports, Chelsea are ready to cut short Marco van Ginkel’s loan spell with Italian outfit AC Milan.
The Dutch international headed to the San Siro outfit on a season-long loan spell in the summer in a bid to gain regular first-team football after overcoming a serious injury last season.
The idea of teaming up with Fernando Torres under exciting new coach Filippo Inzaghi held a lot of promise, yet his Serie A campaign has turned out to be nothing short of a nightmare.
Van Ginkel has made just two Serie A starts all season, and his future chances of a first-team spot hit a snag in recent weeks as Inzaghi admits he can’t give him the assurances he seeks.
“A decision will be made. He knows I can’t assure him playing time,” the former Italian international striker was quoted as saying by the Mirror.
As a result, the Mirror report that the Blues are now ready to recall him to Stamford Bridge and look to send him elsewhere to aid his development.
“Chelsea are ready to end Marco van Ginkel’s AC Milan hell. The 22-year-old wants to cut short his season-long loan spell in Italy and head back to Chelsea early. Chelsea want to move him on elsewhere as they prepare to circle his name to clubs,” the report states.
Van Ginkel joined Jose Mourinho’s side in the summer of 2013 from Dutch outfit Vitesse for a fee reported to be in the region of £8 million.
His debut campaign at Stamford Bridge was going well until he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury which ruled him out for around six months.
