According to a report in the Mirror (live transfer thread, 26 August 2016 at 16:48), Middlesbrough, Derby County, Stoke City, West Ham United and Hull City are keen on Arsenal’s Calum Chambers.

The report claims that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has given the go ahead for Chambers to go out and play regular first-team action on loan and a host of clubs are interested.

West Ham are said to have made an enquiry, while newly-promoted Hull City and Boro are keen as well as Championship promotion hopefuls Derby County as they look to add to their squad.

Chambers has struggled to nail down a regular starting spot at the Emirates Stadium amid heavy competition for places and the expected arrival of Shkodran Mustafi will further dent his chances.

The England internationl is too good to be sitting on the sidelines every Saturday, and a lack of first-team action has no doubt hindered his development over the past 18 months.

Boro have been busy in the transfer market and are well stocked in defence, while Hull in contrast are desparate for more numbers following the injury to Michael Dawson at the back.

The Tigers have been forced to play midfielder Jake Livermore in central defence over the past two games.

Derby’s reported interest comes as a surprise and considering his status somewhat ambitious too, yet the Rams are intent on getting promoted and may feel Chambers could make all the difference.

The report also mentions Espanyol, Valencia and Roma among other suitors.
