Sheffield United’s Simon Moore had been linked with West Bromwich Albion.

According to a report in the Sheffield Star, Sheffield United rebuffed West Bromwich Albion’s enquiry for Simon Moore as they plan on offering the goalkeeper a new deal at Bramall Lane.

The 28-year-old has been the subject of interest from the Baggies this summer, and it appeared at one stage he could be off as the Yorkshire club brought in Luke Steele on a trial.

But in the latest turn of events, Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder has confirmed that Steele has left the club, and that Moore is once again training with the first-team.

West Brom have already signed their number one goalkeeper for the summer, bringing in Sam Johnstone from Manchester United after former regular Ben Foster re-joined Premier League side Watford.

Moore, who made 15 Championship starts last term, is a reliable number two, with manager Wilder favouring 24-year-old Jamal Blackman for the number one jersey.

West Brom seemingly wanted to bring Moore in to compete with Johnstone, but Sheffield United’s refusal to let him go may have prompted the west Midlands club to change targets – as they later signed Jonathan Bond from Reading.

Moore, despite not being a regular number one at United, is still considered a valuable member of the squad and the Star reports that the club are looking to offer him a new deal with his existing contract expiring next summer.

The 6ft 3inch shot-stopper joined the Blades in 2016 and was named in the PFA League One Team of the Year as Wilder’s men secured promotion back to the Championship by winning the League One title.
