Aberdeen have been linked with a move for Sunderland’s Dylan McGeouch.

According to Herald Scotland, Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes is a big fan of Sunderland’s Dylan McGeouch and he is weighing up making an offer for the midfielder.

McGeough’s future at Sunderland is in the balance. The Scot joined the Black Cats from Hibernian last summer, but he only signed a one-year deal at the Stadium of Light.

Sunderland’s failure to secure promotion to the Championship suggests they are vulnerable to losing their higher profile players, and McGeouch reportedly has many suitors monitoring his situation.

A recent report in the Northern Echo suggest Blackburn Rovers are interested, while fellow Championship clubs Brentford and Queens Park Rangers are also said to be keen.

Aberdeen seemingly have competition for his signature, but McInnes has a good record of developing players and the 26-year-old may see a stint at Pottidrie as a way to rebuild his confidence.

McGeouch made just 14 League One appearances last season as he struggled with injuries. It wasn’t what Sunderland fans were expecting following his rave reviews up in Scotland from his Hibs days.

Aberdeen have reason to strengthen their midfield after losing key player Graeme Shinnie to Derby County.

McInnes has managed to bring in Craig Bryson on a free transfer, ironically from Derby, but the 32-year-old’s best days are arguably behind him and further competition for places would benefit the Dons’ small squad.
