Blackburn Rovers signed Jacob Davenport in the summer.
Blackburn Rovers boss Tony Mowbray has confirmed that summer signing Jacob Davenport has returned from injury and is set to play for the U23 side against Brighton on Friday, the Lancashire Telegraph report.
“He got on the bus off to Brighton so he will be playing tomorrow night. He’s hopefully on his route back to the first-team squad. He’s had a tough start to his career here injury wise, he’s a very talented player and has been out there for the last 10 days with us and not short at all,” Mowbray explained.
“He’s very composed with the ball, tenacious, snappy with his passing and I’m looking forward to getting him back up to speed. Whether that’s with a couple of games for the Under-23s, or a week or two training, we will wait and see.”
Could Jacob Davenport be in line for a first-team spot soon?
Davenport arrived at Ewood Park in the summer from Manchester City, signing a four-year contract with the Lancashire club.
Since moving to Rovers, however, the 19-year-old holding midfielder has battled with fitness, and it has been a blow for Blackburn as Corey Evans and Richard Smallwood have often struggled in that role.
Davenport, a naturally gifted passer who spent half a season on loan at Burton Albion last term, making 17 Championship appearances, could offer Rovers a new dimension in midfield and help them gain more control.
Mowbray will be keen to see him in action for the club’s U23 side, and it surely will not be long until fans at Ewood Park see him turn out for the first-team having not yet seen him officially make his debut for the club.
After impressing on their return to the Championship following their League One title-winning campaign last season, Blackburn currently sit in mid-table and face high-flying Leeds United this weekend.
