Derby County have been linked with Rangers manager Steven Gerrard.
According to the Daily Record, Rangers have released a statement firmly denying the club have received an approach from Derby County for manager Steven Gerrard.
“Let’s get one or two things clear. Our manager has not been approached and he remains one hundred per cent committed to the job he has here,” the club statement reads.
The Times ran a report on Tuesday morning claiming Gerrard has turned down an offer to manage Derby.
The Rams are currently dominating the headlines in the Championship as speculation mounts over the future of manager Frank Lampard as the former Chelsea midfielder is linked with a sensational return to Stamford Bridge.
Maurizio Sarri’s exit to Juventus means Chelsea are on the lookout for a new manager and Lampard is deemed the heavy favourite to take over, despite having only been a professional manager for just one season.
Derby owner Mel Morris has reiterated that Chelsea have yet to make a move, while it has been claimed it would take £4 million in compensation to prize Lampard away from Pride Park.
Sky Sports have also claimed several managers have contacted Derby about potentially succeeding Lampard, but the former England international remains in charge of the Rams for now making such calls futile.
Gerrard joined Rangers last summer and signed a four-year deal at the club. It wouldn’t make sense for him to depart Ibrox now as he sets his sights on toppling a vulnerable Celtic side next season.
