McCrorie calls on Gerrard inspiration for potential new Rangers role next season

Rangers ace Ross McCrorie could feature in midfield next season.

Rangers youngster Ross McCrorie says he hopes to have impressed newly-appointed manager Steven Gerrard in a midfield role and adds the former Liverpool skipper can help him progress there, the Herald Scotland reports.

The 20-year-old Rangers product is predominantly a central defender but more recently he has featured in a new central midfield role, scoring in the 1-1 draw at Aberdeen.

McCrorie broke through to the Gers’ first-team set-up under former boss Mark Warburton and has since gone on to make 19 Scottish Premiership starts this term, displaying plenty of potential.

But arguably his best performance of the campaign came at Aberdeen on Tuesday, and it is surely a situation for new boss Steven Gerrard to mull over as he will no doubt be looking to strengthen the midfield this summer.

Speaking to reporters, McCrorie admits he has enjoyed his new midfield role and hints at wanting to remain there, as he looks for Gerrard to use his experience and help him develop further.

“I have played centre mid for the last two games and hopefully I have done a good job and impressed him [Steven Gerrard]” McCrorie explained.

“Because he played in midfield he can pass on his experiences and help my game. But I will play wherever he wants me to play and see what happens.”

Gerrard was an immensely popular figure at Anfield due to his longevity and driving force in the middle of the park, making over 500 Premier League appearances and helping Liverpool win eight major trophies.

His ability to inspire is what prompted Rangers to gamble on him, and they will be hopeful that he can help the club’s young talent such as Josh Windass, Alfredo Morelos, Declan John and McCrorie reach new heights.

McCrorie, standing at 6ft 3inch, has the frame and natural ability to become a top class holding midfielder and Gerrard could be the perfect figure to guide him in such an important and commanding role.
