Queens Park Rangers are reportedly keen on extending Angel Rangel’s stay.
According to a report in The Sun, Queens Park Rangers want to extend Angel Rangel’s current short-term contract at the club until the end of the season, following his impressive form.
The report claims the Spaniard wanted to remain at Swansea following their relegation to the Championship, but the Swans had other ideas and opted to release him after 11 years at the club.
QPR, under manager Steve McClaren, took the opportunity to add his experience at Loftus Road following a poor start to the season. The club initially signed Rangel on a five-month contract.
The 35-year-old fullback, however, has made such an impression in his 11 games in QPR colours, that McClaren recently dubbed him one of the best signings of any Championship club this season.
“Angel Rangel must be so far the signing of the season. He’s 35 years old, came on trial and we signed him and he’s performed so well,” McClaren said, quoted by The Sun, after his side’s 1-0 win over Aston Villa.
When Rangel joined the Hoops, the west London club were rooted to the foot of the table and had just suffered a 7-1 mauling at West Bromwich Albion. Since then, however, the club has won seven of the 11 games Rangel has played at the club.
After taking nine points from their past three matches, QPR find themselves just outside the playoffs, with Rangel averaging 2.2 tackles and 3.4 interceptions per league encounter (Whoscored).
Swansea may regret moving Rangel, but new manager Graham Potter has been quick to install Swans academy star Connor Roberts in as his first-choice right-back.
