Aston Villa fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Chelsea-owned striker Tammy Abraham’s message thanking the supporters after the Villans defeated promotion challengers Derby County at Pride Park.

Villa hadn’t won an away game since the opening day of the season, and under newly appointed manager Dean Smith they had lost their first two games on the road at Norwich City and Queens Park Rangers.

Something clicked against Derby, however, and three second half goals from John McGinn, Connor Hourihane and Abraham gave the west Midlands side their most impressive win of this campaign.

Abraham was effusive about Villa’s performance, with supporters telling him to sign a permanent deal at Villa Park in response.

Abraham joined Aston Villa on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea in August, having previously enjoyed spells out on loan with fellow Championship sides Bristol City and Swansea City (the latter then in the Premier League).

With the Blues having an abundance of talented loan players elsewhere and a current set of top-class strikers, it’s unlikely Abraham is going to break into the Chelsea squad anytime soon, so a permanent exit wouldn’t come as a surprise.

The 21-year-old has a lot of potential. His strike against the Rams was his fourth league goal of the campaign, with Villa moving into the top half and just four points shy of the top six.
