Bolton Wanderers lost 2-0 at Stoke City this week.
Some Bolton Wanderers supporters have taken to Twitter to question why manager Phil Parkinson replaced David Wheater with Marc Wilson for the trip to Stoke City.
Bolton headed to Stoke coming off the back of a mightily impressive defensive display on Saturday, as the Trotters stifled a free-flowing Derby County side and ran out 1-0 winners at the University of Bolton Stadium.
Stoke were always going to pose a different threat, and boss Parkinson felt the need to change things up by replacing Wheater – who was brilliant against Derby – for fellow experienced defender Wilson.
The decision, however, backfired as Wilson and Jonathan Grounds struggled on the left side and supporters were quick to show their frustration after the final whistle as Stoke ran out 2-0 winners.
Hobbs and Wheater were terrific against Derby, but Parkinson perhaps felt he could not play the former Middlesbrough defender three times in a week and opted to rest him.
The decision was a costly one, as Bolton were outmanoeuvred by Stoke and often struggled to match their physicality up front as Benik Afobe and Saido Berahino combined well leaving Tom Ince free on the right.
Stoke have not had the best of times so far under Gary Rowett, and Bolton supporters will be disappointed they could not follow in the footsteps of rivals Blackburn Rovers and Wigan Athletic by picking up all three points at the Bet365 Stadium.
The hosts were there for the taking, but slack defending and not enough know-how from the visitors cost them as they now look to regroup for the upcoming home clash with Lancashire rivals Blackburn.
