According to a report in The Star, Sheffield Wednesday striker Jordan Rhodes has been linked with a loan move to Norwich City – a deal which could make plenty of sense for both sides.

Firstly, Norwich are seemingly on the lookout for attacking additions after Josh Murphy and James Maddison left for the Premier League, and Rhodes is a natural goal getter at Championship level.

The Scotland international netted more than 20 goals in three successive league campaigns for Blackburn Rovers, therefore the ability is there, he just needs to find a team fit to play to his strengths.

The Canaries may not wish to spend big sums on a permanent striker this season, so acquiring Rhodes for the season on a loan would be a great short-term move while they look to build a promotion-winning team.

As for Wednesday, the Yorkshire club are in a battle with Financial Fair Play following their failure to earn promotion to the Premier League and they may have to sell before strengthening this summer.

Rhodes must be one of their highest earners having arrived from Middlesbrough for a sizeable fee, yet he has struggled in Owls colours and looks set to be out of the first-team picture next season regardless.

Wednesday have an abundance of strikers with Fernando Forestieri, Gary Hooper, Steven Fletcher, Lucas Joao, Atdhe Nuhiu and Sam Winnall also on the books, therefore Rhodes has enormous competition for places.

ERSKINE, SCOTLAND - MARCH 23 Jordan Rhodes is seen during a training session at Mar Hall on March 23, 2017 in Erskine, Scotland.

After struggling to make an impact at Hillsborough following an indifferent spell at Boro, Rhodes’ stock is at an all-time low now, so the club may struggle to find a suitor willing to purchase him and pay his full wages.

With two years left on his contract, the Owls loaning him out would be smart, as rediscovering his top form at Carrow Road would likely prompt interest from somebody in a permanent move next summer.

Wednesday are in a situation where it is damage limitation with Rhodes, and they need to find a way where they can make him a desirable target so that they stand a chance of at least making some money back on him.
