Sheffield Wednesday haven’t signed anybody this summer.
Sheffield Wednesday defender Morgan Fox doesn’t seem too fussed by the lack of inward transfers, claiming that the club have a great squad already, the Sheffield Star report.
The Owls have been arguably the quietest club in the transfer market in the Championship this summer, bringing nobody in while selling Jack Hunt to Bristol City, and allowing Jordan Rhodes to join Norwich City on loan.
It has been suggested by the Star that Sheffield Wednesday have been forced, in order to comply with Financial Fair Pay rules, to cut its squad this summer before bringing anyone in.
A lack of signings while fellow Championship competitors strengthen could play on the minds of some players, but Fox remains confident in his teammates.
“There has not been a lot of change this summer but we know what we have got in this group,” Fox told The Star.
“We have a brilliant amount of talent. Everyone knows how good the squad is. You just have to look at the players we have got on our books. We have a great squad. We didn’t get into two play-offs for no reason.”
Is a promotion challenge possible without any signings?
Sheffied Wednesday massively underachieved last season. After two playoff finishes, the club parted company with their manager and ended up in a lower midtable position, struggling with injuries and a loss of form to key players.
Dutch boss Jos Luhukay has slowly implemented his own style, and towards the end of the campaign the Yorkshire club showed glimpses of their potential as they won six of the last ten games.
With key players such as Fernando Forestieri, Barry Bannan, Kieran Lee and Kieren Westwood staying put, the Owls have the quality to mount another promotion challenge providing they remain injury free.
Sheffield Wednesday have plenty of options in the final third with an abundance of attacking players, but their lack of strength in depth at the back is an issue. Luhukay will surely want to try and bring in one more centre-back.
