Norwich City have been linked with Everton’s Antony Evans.
According to the Sun on Sunday (14/10 page 61), Norwich City are keen on signing Antony Evans on loan from Premier League side Everton during the upcoming January transfer window.
The report claims the Toffees will need convincing to let Evans move to Carrow Road after the 20-year-old suffered an underwhelming loan spell at League Two side Morecombe last season.
To convince the Merseyside club to allow him to move to Norfolk, Norwich would probably have to promise to make the Everton youngster a regular starter and offer him an influential role in the side.
But doing so could hinder the progress of academy graduate Todd Cantwell, especially as the two players seek a similar role as an attack-minded midfielder who likes to break forward and get into the box.
Playing both in the same team would not be a wise choice by boss Daniel Farke, as his Norwich side would lose balance in the midfield which so far this season has been the side’s strongest area.
Cantwell, 20, has been a regular fixture in the Canaries’ starting XI over the past six weeks and he has predominantly featured as a wide left attacker with licence to cut inside.
The academy product’s rise to first-team regular has been quite sudden, but not without reason as Cantwell displays calmness and drive on the ball, averaging 1.4 key passes and 1.2 dribbles per game (Whoscored).
Cantwell is not the only academy product breaking through this season, as Jamal Lewis and Max Aarons have established themselves in the fullback positions while Ben Godfrey is another midfielder looking to step up.
Norwich have an exciting crop of young players making the headlines, and it would be a shame to see one move aside so that a Premier League side’s own academy player can get valuable first-team experience.
