Norwich City sporting director Stuart Webber says there will be challenges ahead for manager Daniel Farke should the club miss out on promotion to the Premier League this season, Eastern Daily Press report.

“I believe in complete transparency with our staff. Daniel [Farke] is a key member of staff and he needs to know the challenges ahead if we stay in this league,” Webber told reporters.

“That is being honest, not painting a picture where he signs a new contract and in 12 months we pull the rug from under his feet.”

Webber spoke about renewing Daniel Farke’s contract with his current deal set to expire at the end of the current campaign, but the remit of his job could change depending on what league the Canaries are in next year.

Norwich suffered relegation to the Championship at the end of the 2015/16 campaign, therefore with parachute payments coming to an end the Norfolk club have already begun to make some cutbacks.

The likes of James Maddison and Josh Murphy were sold last summer, though there are still players who are on Premier League wages, such as Timm Klose, Ivo Pinto and Matt Jarvis, having signed for the club during their short stay in the top-flight.

A failure to secure promotion again this season could put the Canaries in a testing position, with the progress of top youngsters Todd Cantwell, Max Aarons and Jamal Lewis making them obvious targets to raise funds.

But Norwich supporters will be hopeful promotion can be secured as Farke’s side are currently top the Championship table having won their last five league games in succession and nine in their last 11.

With no standout team such as last season’s champions Wolverhampton Wanderers, the race for a spot in the Premier League is wide open and Norwich look just as capable as any other fighting at the top.
