Norwich City manager Daniel Farke has told reporters how influential midfielder Moritz Leitner has not recovered from a calf injury in time for the visit of Rotherham United this weekend, the Eastern Daily Press reports.

“Sadly we have to play without Moritz (for Saturday). No chance. He has an injury in his calf. We hope he is back for the Bolton game. It depends a bit on how it develops from day to day. If all goes to plan then it will be the middle of next week,” Fark explained.

Norwich head into the clash with the Millers looking to build on a terrific run of form of ten wins in their last 13 Championship games – a run that has taken them to the top of the league.

A key ingredient of the Canaries’ surge up the league has been a consistent starting line-up, with Leitner in particular proving to be one of the side’s most important players.

The 25-year-old has started 17 games for Norwich this season, and he acts as a deep-lying play-maker in the holding midfield position, recording two key passes and 2.1 tackles per game (Whoscored).

Leitner joined Norwich from Bundesliga side Augsburg last January on an initial six-month loan before making the move to Carrow Road permanent in the summer, signing a four-year deal.

The former 24-capped German U21 international has an abundance of talent and you would be hard-pressed to find a holding midfielder in better form in the Championship right now.

Leitner’s absence against Hull City in midweek was telling as Norwich drew 0-0, and he will be missed again this weekend as Rotherham arrive in Norfolk looking to extend their current unbeaten run.
