Norwich City’s Ben Marshall has been linked with Ipswich Town.
Norwich City and Ipswich Town supporters have taken to Twitter to comment on speculation linking Ben Marshall with a loan move to Portman Road during the January transfer window.
According to a report in The Sun (paper edition page 59; 16/12), Ipswich are seeking a loan deal for Norwich summer signing Ben Marshall as the Tractor Boys look to bolster their survival chances.
Ipswich boss Paul Lambert is said to be a big fan of Marshall having had him at Blackburn Rovers and later signing him for Wolverhampton Wanderers, and he would certainly be an improvement at Portman Road.
Ipswich supporters have taken to Twitter to suggest he would be a welcome addition at the club, though several Norwich fans have questioned why their side would go out of their way to help their biggest rivals.
Marshall only joined Norwich in the summer, though he hasn’t featured since August and seems out of favour under manager Daniel Farke with the Canaries settling on a consistent squad in their promotion push.
Capable of playing at right-back, Marshall has Max Aarons and Ivo Pinto ahead of him in the pecking order at Carrow Road while at Ipswich he could be an improvement on Jordan Spence and Janoi Donacien.
Marshall has plenty of Championship experience and that seems to be what Paul Lambert is looking to bring to Ipswich during the January transfer window, admitting as much to the East Anglian Daily Times in a recent interview: “There are players we’ve identified to try and get. Ideally you want ones who know this league and that’s what I’m looking at because we need a bit more experience.”
Not many players join Ipswich or Norwich directly from the other club considering their rivalry, but with this being a proposed loan move, perhaps it would be more realistic than a permanent deal.
