Hull City may find it difficult to strengthen in the January transfer window.

Hull's head coach Nigel Adkins looks on during the Sky Bet Championship match between Hull City and Brentford at KCOM Stadium on December 9, 2017 in Hull, England.

Hull City manager Nigel Adkins has told reporters how his side have already missed out on two January transfer window targets as the club don’t have the finances to compete for their signature, Hull Daily Mail reports.

“We had a recruitment meeting on Thursday. There’s two people we looked at and would have liked to have brought in. They could only be done on loan, but they have gone to other clubs. We could not get anywhere near with the finances. That is where we are. We have to understand that,” Adkins explained.

Hull were beaten to the likes of Oliver Norwood and Jiri Skalak who joined Sheffield United and Millwall respectively during the summer (Hull Daily Mail), and it’s already shaping up to be the same in January.

The Tigers don’t have the biggest budget in the league, but they’re further being hampered by the owners seeking to sell the club and thus seemingly unwilling to invest much more on the playing side.

City have made the most of the loan market this season with Aston Villa’s Tommy Elphick and Derby County’s Chris Martin joining the club, and it seems that will be their best bet of strengthening in January.

But for any decent player out there, Hull will likely face competition from fellow Championship clubs and it still may come down to which cub is willing to pay more in terms of a loan fee and wages.

Hull City are on a decent run of form and have picked up 18 points from their last nine league games, pulling themselves clear of the relegation zone.

January, however, will be a pivotal month in their season and their biggest worry is teams potentially coming in for the likes of Jarrod Bowen and Kamil Groscki, who surely will have put other teams on alert.
