Newcastle United sold Aleksandar Mitrovic to Fulham this summer.

Newcastle United supporters have taken to Twitter to question manager Rafa Benitez’s decision to sell Aleksandar Mitrovic to Fulham this summer, following the striker’s double for the London club in a 4-2 win over Burnley.
The Magpies sent Mitrovic on loan to Fulham last season, and the Serbia international was instrumental as the Whites gained promotion to the Premier League via the Championship playoffs.
Many felt the 23-year-old was maturing and could finally show that sort of promise at St. James’ Park, but Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez evidently had other ideas, and appeared happy enough to sell him to Fulham this summer.
With Newcastle struggling for goals last term, it seemed a rather bold move from the Spaniard. And after three Premier League games this season, perhaps he is now starting to regret that decision.
Mitrovic scored his first Fulham goal in the 3-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur on the opening day of the season, and he has followed that up with two more in a 4-2 win over Burnley – in the same afternoon as Newcastle’s 2-1 defeat at home to Chelsea.
Writing on Twitter during the two matches, a section of Newcastle supporters still can’t understand why the clu allowed Mitrovic to leave when it’s clear the Magpies are lacking a goal threat upfront.
To make matters worse, Mitrovic’s double against Burnley took his tally to 15 league goals since February – a return which only Liverpool’s golden boot winner Mohamed Salah can match in England’s top four leagues.

The former Anderlecht man is finding his feet at Craven Cottage and could be the man to fire Fulham to Premier League safety – but could it be at Newcastle’s expense?
It would be rather ironic if the west London club managed to survive with the aid of Mitrovic’s goals while Newcastle struggle, and on the basis of the opening three matches it appears a realistic and plausible outcome.
