Arsenals fans have expressed doubts that midfielder Jack Wilshere was ever good enough to play from them following his subdued display during the club’s 3-1 win over West Ham Saturday.

The England international came through the youth ranks at Arsenal, and was once dubbed one of the brightest midfielders in the world. But Wilshere had a torrid time with injuries at Arsenal, making just 125 Premier League appearances for the club since making his debut as a 16-year-old in the 2008-09 campaign.

With the 26-year-old’s contract expiring in the summer, the Gunners were happy for him to move on, and Wilshere ended up joining London rivals West Ham on a three-year deal. And in his third league match for the Hammers, Wilshere was back at the Emirates, but, much to the delight of Arsenal fans, gave a subdued performance.

Here are some example of Arsenal fans’ Tweets:

The victory was Arsenal’s first three points of the season and gives new manager Unai Emery something to build on. For West Ham, defeat leaves them without a point in their opening three games, and rock bottom of the Premier League.

It’s going to be tough for new boss Manuel Pellegrini to get his West Ham side playing to their potential, and one area of concern is a flimsy midfield which doesn’t seem to provide much protection for the back four.

Wilshere hasn’t looked particularly comfortable in his new surroundings. with Hammers fans clealy expecting more.

Marko Arnautovic gave West Ham the lead, but goals from Nacho Monreal, Issa Diop (own goal) and a last-minute third from Danny Welbeck handed the hosts victory.
