Watford’s Will Hughes was instrumental in his side’s 3-1 win at Burnley.
Derby County supporters have taken to Twitter to comment on Will Hughes’ excellent performance for Watford as his side defeated Burnley 3-1 at Turf Moor.
Hughes, a former Derby County academy product, traded the Rams for Watford in the summer of 2017 for a fee believed to be rising up to £8 million (the Guardian).
The fee paid by the Hornets was an absolute bargain for an England U21 international who had already featured over 100 times for Derby – having broken into the first team at the age of just 17.
Hughes is incredibly gifted with the ball at his feet, and he has started to control games at Premier League level, with his latest performance against Burnley illustrating his undoubted talent.
Commenting on Twitter, watching Derby fans lamented the low fee their club received for the player, while praising his top performance against a decent Burnley side.
The former Derby County favourite was instrumental throughout at Turf Moor, recording an impressive six tackles – twice as many as any other Watford player – while creating two chances for his teammates (Whoscored).
But Hughes’ most impressive contribution was his 30-yard strike which left Burnley goalkeeper Joe Hart with no chance, putting the Hornets 3-1 up and on their way to bagging all three points.
Derby fans always knew Hughes was destined to play the very top level, and the regret is there that he’s currently playing top-flight football in Watford’s midfield rather than at his real home – Pride Park.
