Steven Gerrard has been linked with the Rangers managerial job this summer.

Hibernian manager Neil Lennon is seen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Celtic and Hibernian at Celtic Park Stadium on September 30, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Hibernian manager Neil Lennon believes it would be it would be a risk for both parties as speculation mounts over the possibility of Steven Gerrard taking over the Rangers managerial job this summer, The Sun report.

The former Liverpool captain has been heavily linked with taking over the Rangers post this summer, with recent reports suggesting that the job is his if he decides to take it on following talks.

The Gers are arguably in need of fresh impetus following their disappointing Scottish Cup semi-final defeat to Celtic, and the club may feel a high-profile figure in charge is the key to closing the gap on the Hoops.

Gerrard has never held a top managerial position before, yet that hasn’t stopped the likes of Pep Guardiola, Zinedine Zidane and to a lesser extent Frank de Boer from taking on big jobs and succeeding.

Speaking to reporters, Lennon feels it would be a risk for both parties if Gerrard took over the Rangers post as he warns whoever takes over at Ibrox has a bit of a job on their hands.

“It’s a risk from both parties really. I think he might have a lot of thinking to do first. In terms of Rangers, patience is needed. Whoever goes in has a bit of a job on his hands,” Lennon explained.

“It’s not insurmountable but I think a more experienced guy would be advantageous in that department. But if Steve thinks he can do it, then good luck to him.”

Lennon himself took over the Celtic post in his first managerial position, though at the time the Hoops were undoubtedly in a far more stable position than Rangers currently.

The Ibrox outfit are under pressure to close the gap on the Hoops as they hope to prevent Brendan Rodgers’ side from winning 10 successive Scottish Premiership titles, though financially they are at a disadvantage.

Bringing in Gerrard could be a stroke of genius as the former England international may be able to persuade better standard players to move to Ibrox, while acquiring Liverpool’s better youngsters on loan could be another option.
