Millwall’s Ben Thompson enjoyed a terrific end to the season.

According to the South London Press, Millwall look set to hand Ben Thompson a new contract despite the 23-year-old still having two years left on his current deal.
It is suggested in the report that Millwall want to reward Thompson for his impressive performances this season, and they have opted to act swiftly as they feel there could be potential future interest in him from rival clubs.
Thompson began this past season on loan at League One club Portsmouth where he helped the south coast club cement their position in the top six.
The deal at Pompey was expected to last the season, but Millwall boss Neil Harris decided to bring him back to The Den in early January and subsequently handed him a first team start.
Thompson went on to make 13 Championship appearances in the second half of the campaign, scoring four goals and striking up a good partnership with centre-forward Lee Gregory in an attacking role.

The Lions youth academy graduate has had to bide his time in south London, but he now represents a top talent for Millwall and next season could be where he makes his big breakthrough.
The report adds that a repeat of his impressive performances could see rival clubs come in for him. Extending his deal now, therefore, makes sense as to avoid being in a weaker negotiating position in the near future.
