Millwall were reportedly keen on signing Middlesbrough’s Rudy Gestede.

Millwall manager Neil Harris says a lack of signings by the top teams in the Championship limited his side’s chances of bringing players in amid links to Middlesbrough’s Rudy Gestede, South London Press and Mercury reports.
“This time there was probably less money spent than ever by people in our division. Because money was not spent at the top of the division and the lower reaches of the Premier League it had a knock-on effect that they would not allow players to go out to clubs in the middle or bottom of the Championship,” Harris explained.
The South London Press and Mercury report that Millwall were keen on signing Boro’s Gestede on deadline day, and Harris admits he thought more than one deal was done only for the Lions to come up short.
Gestede has not been in Boro’s plans this season, making just one Championship start.
The former Blackburn Rovers man has fallen behind the likes of Jordan Hugill and Britt Assombalonga in the pecking order, but Boro’s own lack of signings could have meant they were unwilling to move him on.

The Teesside club managed to bring in Rajiv van La Parra on loan, while John Obi Mikel signed on a short-term deal, but manager Tony Pulis would have no doubt wanted one or two more.
Boro have lacked creativity and goals all season, finding the net just 34 times in 29 games. Gestede, however, seemingly can’t force his way in and his reported failed move to Millwall now leaves him in limbo.
As for Millwall, they would have been hoping to bring in another attacker to replace the injured Tom Bradshaw and Tom Elliot. Now, they will have to rely on Lee Gregory remaining free of injury.
