According to a report in The Telegraph, Birmingham City face a possible 12-point penalty deduction after allegedly breaking spending rules while under a transfer embargo.
The EFL are said to have agreed on the proposed sanction this week, after it emerged the Blues have allegedly breached rules on profitability and sustainability.
Taking to Twitter to comment on the potential points deduction, Birmingham supporters feel that such a penalty would be extremely harsh, while making them favourites for relegation from the Championship.
Birmingham have yet to win a game in the Championship this season, having drawn four of their opening six leagues games, and losing the other two.
A 12-point deduction would put them on -8 points, and in need of collecting 58 points from the remaining 40 games (top half form) just to reach the magical 50-point mark to starve off relegation.
There is some hope for Birmingham City fans, however, as the EFL told Birmingham Live that the club will have the opportunity to present its case before any decision is made about possible sanctions, and that ‘The Board of the EFL has not as yet agreed on the sanction that it will be seeking’.
