Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion are on the lookout for a new manager.
According to a report by Fourfourtwo, Middlesbrough are considering making a move for Lincoln City manager Danny Cowley who has also been linked with a move to West Bromwich Albion.
Boro are on the lookout for a new boss after departing company with Tony Pulis. The Welshman spent just over 18 months on Teesside, but a failure to reach the play-offs this season has prompted his exit.
Cowley is widely regarded as one of the best young managers in the lower leagues after guiding Lincoln City to the league Two title this season.
It is said in the report that West Brom are keen on the Imps manager as they too look for a permanent boss following the dismissal of Darren Moore in March. Jimmy Shan originally took over as caretaker boss, but a failure to secure promotion to the Premier League will have harmed his chances of getting the Baggies role full-time.
Boro are suffering the effects of overspending in their bid to reach the top-flight following relegation in 2016-17. Pulis has had to slash the club’s wage bill and sell off key players as their parachute payments now ends.
Owner Steve Gibson is said to now be targeting a different direction at the Riverside Stadium. The next manager won’t have a big budget to work with and will seemingly be tasked with targeting a long-term strategy.
Cowley, who will cost £500,000 in compensation, has taken Lincoln from the National League to League One while winning the EFL trophy in 2018 and reaching the FA Cup quarter-final in 2017.
