Celtic will look to enter a bright new era under boss Brendan Rodgers.
Former Celtic player Mark Wilson believes the Hoops will undergo an immediate squad overhaul following the arrival of newly-appointed manager Brendan Rodgers, Herald Scotland report.
Despite claiming their fifth successive Scottish Premiership title last season, many in Scotland felt Celtic underachieved under the guidance of Ronny Deila, especially on the European front.
Transfers will be key for Rodgers during the early stages of his Celtic reign, and his first job will be to shift on a number of players who have simply failed to improve the team and warrant their weekly wage.
Colin Kazim-Richards is the first to go, and Wilson predicts many more to follow as the former Liverpool boss will look to gradually stamp his mark on the team.
“You would think more would follow. That was pretty evident from last season that whoever came in was going to do that. Kazim-Richards was one of the strangest signings I’ve seen at Celtic,” Wilson told Herald Scotland.
“So Rodgers will clear them out, get them off the wage bill. You’d think the Celtic board would give him some money to spend and he will bring in quality.”
“But what I’m looking forward to seeing is his coaching and how he plans to work with the players already there, whether he can turn them into a nice passing team who play attacking football in a successful style.”
Kazim-Richards only joined Celtic last January but after scoring just one goal in 11 appearances for the Glasgow club, his swift exit doesn’t come as a great surprise.
Rodgers’ job now is to decide which other players he feels doesn’t have a future at the club, and judging on performances over the past 18 months the list may be longer than expected.
