Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho feels Manchester City’s Premier League title was unjust following their failure to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations, the Daily Star report.
The Citizens were crowned champions for the second time in three years last season, overtaking both Liverpool and Chelsea at the final hurdle of the campaign.
However, their title victory wasn’t without controversy as reports later revealed that the club failed to comply with FFP following their lavish spending, the BBC reported.
The Etihad outfit were fined a whopping £49 million for their troubles and squad capped in the Champions League, yet that didn’t prevent them from strengthening in the summer and again last month.
The Citizens’ business in the market has clearly riled Mourinho, who has hit out at the Manchester side for breaching the rules.
“The only thing that is not nice is that you compete against the ones who don’t follow the same rules,” Mourinho was quoted as saying by the Daily Star.
“That’s the only problem. I don’t think a team can be champions when you are punished, and it’s happened before, because the team didn’t comply with FFP.”
The Citizens may have supreme financial muscle compared to their challengers, but this season they have at times stuttered and look in real danger of surrendering their Premier League crown.
They currently lie in second spot in the table, five points behind the Blues with trips to Old Trafford and Anfield to come.
