Hull City were linked with a move for Doncaster Rovers midfielder Ben Whiteman.
Doncaster Rovers midfielder Ben Whiteman says his club turning down a summer bid from Hull City made him feel valued at the Keepmoat Stadium as he reflects on the Tigers offer, the Hull Daily Mail reports.
“The board have obviously got a valuation on myself and they stayed strong with it and the other club did not meet it and it does make you feel valued,” Whiteman explained.
According to the Hull Daily Mail, Hull tried to bring in Whiteman as they made a substantial bid for the Doncaster midfielder last week only to be turned down by the League One club.
New Hull manager Grant McCann knows all about Whiteman following his spell at Doncaster last season. The former Sheffield United midfielder is a key player at Rovers, making 50 appearances last term.
The Tigers ultimately missed out on Whiteman, but they did manage to strengthen the midfield before Thursday’s transfer deadline as they brought in Leandro Lopes from fellow Championship side Wigan Athletic.
Hull started the season with a defeat at Swansea City, but they bounced back last weekend to record their first victory under McCann as the Tigers downed Reading 2-1 at the KCOM Stadium.
Jarrod Bowen and Kamil Grosicki are going to be key for Hull this season, but McCann seemingly identified Whiteman as the ideal man to link the play and help get his side’s creative players on the ball.
Another excellent season at Doncaster will surely see Whiteman playing Championship football next season, whether it is via promotion with the Yorkshire club or a transfer in 12 months.
