Bolton Wanderers supporters have taken to Twitter to comment on midfielder Josh Vela’s Twitter post signalling his intentions to leave the club this summer when his contract expires.

The Salford-born midfielder came through the Bolton youth academy and has been a key fixture of the first-team for the past five years, playing in over 180 games in all competitions for the Lancashire club.

But, with his contract expiring at the end of the season, Vela took to Twitter to tell supporters he will be leaving the club after 17 ‘glorious’ years at the club with fans responding with kind messages.

After the first four matches, the Trotters picked up ten points and claimed an opening day 2-1 victory at promotion favourites West Bromwich Albion. Some fans could have been hopeful of a potential play-off challenge.

But, since then, Bolton have endured a torrid campaign. Off-field financial issues have dominated the headlines while on the pitch a lack of goals have been the side’s undoing in a season to forget.

Phil Parkinson’s side finished second from bottom, picking up just 32 points and scoring a mere 29 goals. They have failed to find the net in their last six league games, while they have won just three times in 2019.

Vela hasn’t featured as much this season compared to previous years, yet he will be a big miss in League One. His last campaign in the third tier saw him net nine goals as he featured in every game.

The 25-year-old will likely have plenty of suitors from fellow Championship clubs this summer as he still has the best years of his career ahead of him and as a free-agent he represents a real bargain.
