Sheffield Wednesday have several senior players who are currently out of the first-team picture.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay has refused to rule out selling currently out of favour players in the January transfer window, as several senior stars struggle for game time, the Sheffield Star reports.
“I don’t know, we will see,” Luhukay responded when asked about selling players in January.
“These players have signed contracts for Sheffield Wednesday. In football you have periods where you play, and when you don’t. “You must respect that. We have respect for the players and hopefully the players have respect for the job.”
“I will not speak about January or next summer. The focus must be not too much about on the players who are not playing, we must have the focus on the players who play Saturday.”
Wednesday have one of the biggest squads in the Championship, and such competition for places has seen fan favourites Kieren Westwood and Sam Hutchinson kept out of the starting XI on a regular basis.
The Owls faced a transfer embargo in the summer after falling foul of the Financial Fair Play regulations but, despite an inability to buy, the squad was still too big come the start of the season.

Westwood has become third choice behind Cameron Dawson and Joe Wildsmith, while Hutchinson, David Jones, George Boyd, Almen Abdi and Joost van Aken have barely played. Moreover, Jordan Rhodes is out on loan at Norwich City, and Sam Winnall is still recovering from injury.
Some of the above-mentioned players can still do a decent job at Championship level, but it doesn’t make sense to keep them on long-term contracts.
