We take a look at how Liverpool’s loanees competed this weekend.
Liverpool currently have six players out on loan this season and we take a look at which ones featured this weekend and made an impact for their respective clubs.
Divock Origi:
The Belgian international joined the Reds this summer in a deal worth £10 million from French outfit Lille, but as a part of the deal he returned to his former club on a season-long loan deal.
This weekend, the Ligue 1 outfit travelled to the early table-toppers Caen with Origi to feature as the lone striker.
It wasn’t the best of performances by the 19-year-old though he did manage to score the only goal of the game courtesy of a cool finish from the penalty spot.
Andre Wisdom:
The highly-rated Liverpool right-back enjoyed a successful loan spell at Derby County last season and vowed to test his abilities in the Premier League this campaign.
He joined West Bromwich Albion on a season-long loan deal and featured for 90 minutes during the Baggies’ 2-2 draw at home to Sunderland in the Premier League opener.
Wisdom made one tackle, two effective clearances and maintained an 84% pass competition rate though he will want to improve on his productivity going forward.
Iago Aspas:
The 27-year-old Spanish striker returned to his native country with Sevilla this summer after a struggling campaign on Merseyside.
Despite the La Liga campaign not starting until next week, Aspas did get a taste of first-team action this weekend during Sevilla’s 3-0 friendly win over Cadiz.
Coming on as an early second half substitute, the former Celta Vigo star spent most of the time involved in a personal battle with Cadiz defender Lopez. With tensions running high between the two, a coming-together occured and Lopez was shown a straight red card by referee for over aggression whereas Aspas was given just a yellow.
Joao Carlos Teixeira:
The Portuguese starlet joined former Liverpool idol Sami Hyypia at Brighton on a season-long loan deal only a day before their clash at Birmingham City.
Named amongst the substitutes, talented midfielder Teixeira came on the 64th minute but couldn’t prevent the visitors from going down 1-0.
Fellow loanees Brad Smith (Swindon) and Luis Alberto (Malaga) did not feature this weekend.
