Lloyd Dyer has re-joined Burton Albion following his Bolton Wanderers release.
Burton Albion have confirmed on their official website that wide player Lloyd Dyer has re-signed with the club on a short-term deal following his summer release from Bolton Wanderers.
Dyer spent two years at Burton between 2016 and 2018, helping the club remain in the Championship in his first season at the Pirelli Stadium.
But Burton’s relegation to League One at the end of the 2017-18 campaign saw Dyer leave on a free transfer at the end of his contract. He later signed a one-year deal at Bolton.
Dyer went on to make seven appearances for the Trotters, but he endured a torrid season at the Lancashire club as Bolton struggled both on and off the pitch, resulting in relegation to League One.
The Trotters’ financial situation saw Dyer walk away on a free in this past summer along with a host of other senior players. Many would have probably expected the 37-year-old to hang up his boots.
Dyer, however, has been given another chance by Burton boss Nigel Clough. With the winger only seven games shy of 500 career league appearances, he has extra motivation to regain a first-team spot with the Brewers.
Burton have made an inconsistent start to their League One campaign this term, winning three, drawing three and losing three of their nine games in charge.
Ironically, Burton’s next home game is against Dyer’s former club Bolton, with the Trotters already 15 points adrift of survival after receiving a 12-point penalty at the start of the campaign.
