Tottenham Hotspur’s Christian Eriksen deserves a far better deal at the club.

Tottenham Hotspur ace Christian Eriksen has just over two years remaining on his contract and when it comes down to talks over a new deal he should be commanding at least double his current wages.
The Denmark international is arguably the most improved player under Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino, illustrated by his impressive 10 goals and eight assists in 31 Premier League games thus far.
Transfermarkt rate his current value at £70 million, yet it’s questionable whether you could replace the 26-year-old with such a figure considering how blown up the market is in today’s game.

Similar to fellow attacker Heung Min-Son, Eriksen’s deal expires in 2020 and Spurs know they are in a delicate situation as Europe’s leading clubs would no doubt take the Dane off their hands in a heartbeat.
According to Spotrac, Tottenham’s highest earners are Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris on a weekly salary of £100,000 while Eriksen’s £75,000-per-week makes him the club’s joint-ninth highest earner.
| Team | Goals | Assists | Chances Created | Appearances | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mohamed Salah | Liverpool | 12 | 4 | 20 | 10 |
| Christian Eriksen | Tottenham | 5 | 3 | 30 | 11 |
| Leroy Sané | Man City | 3 | 4 | 19 | 8 |
| David Silva | Man City | 3 | 3 | 15 | 8 |
| Raheem Sterling | Man City | 3 | 4 | 18 | 9 |
| Kevin De Bruyne | Man City | 1 | 6 | 39 | 11 |
| Mesut Özil | Arsenal | 0 | 3 | 25 | 9 |
But as shown by the table provided by Opta, not only is that an insult to his ability at Spurs, it’s ridiculously low considering he is one of the best players currently in the Premier League.
Since the turn of the New Year, only Kevin De Bruyne has created more chances than Eriksen. He leaves Arsenal’s Mesut Ozil (£220,000-per-week) and Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling (£150,000-per-week) trailing in his wake.

At 26, the former Ajax man has plenty of potential to improve further and his next contract should arguably be the biggest earner of his career, and at a club who will challenge for the major trophies.
Spurs haven’t won a title since their 2008 League Cup success, therefore compared to a Barcelona or Real Madrid, they probably aren’t the most tempting option unless they can make Eriksen an offer he simply can’t refuse.
