Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson has come in for some criticism.

Jordan Henderson unveiled as Liverpool player

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has leapt to the defence of midfielder Jordan Henderson following criticism of the player after the 2-0 defeat at Burnley, the Mirror report.

The Reds began the season with a terrific 4-3 win over Arsenal, yet victory masked over their defensive frailties and the 2-0 defeat at Burnley saw plenty of questions posed of the team’s defensive capabilities.

Henderson has often played as a holding midfielder under Klopp, and it was the England international who was at times exposed at Turf Moor as the Clarets pulled off a shock win.

Klopp, however, has defended the player amid speculation over his future at the club by suggesting to reporters he has no doubts Henderson will remain a key figure at Anfield.

“I see him every day in training so if I was doubting him he would not be here,” Klopp told the Mirror. “I like this player and he is very important for this club. There is absolutely no doubt.”

Liverpool have been poor as a defensive unit this season and while many point the finger at individual mistakes, collectively as a team they are often left exposed.

The high-pressing mentality can lead to spaces in behind should Liverpool fail to win the ball back at the first attempt, while playing with such intensity also leads to rash decisions on and off the ball.

The Reds take on Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane this weekend and a bad result could lead to many supporters pleading for extra additions ahead of the upcoming transfer deadline.
