Jermaine Jenas suggests why Huddersfield will stay up; predicts bottom three

Huddersfield Town are in a relegation fight with Southampton, Stoke City and Crystal Palace.

Former midfielder Jermaine Jenas believes current trio West Bromwich Albion, Stoke City and Southampton’s lack of goal scoring threat could be the saviour of Huddersfield Town this season, the BBC report.

Huddersfield are battling against the drop in their debut Premier League campaign and so far they have acquitted themselves well, recording 32 points from 33 games and sitting in 16th spot.

While Huddersfield have hardly spent a week in bottom three this season, with just two wins in their last 15 games their form is a worry, and their lack of goals are without doubt a major cause for concern.

Having said that, Jenas feels the current bottom three are in even more dire straits, suggesting their own troubles in-front of goal could ultimately see Huddersfield beat the drop come the end of the season.

“The bottom three just don’t look like winning. Stoke were unfortunate the other day against Arsenal while Southampton should be very worried,” Jenas told the BBC.

“None of them seem like scoring. West Brom, Stoke and Southampton might well be the saviour of teams like Huddersfield.”

Stoke lost again as they were narrowly beaten 2-1 at home to Tottenham Hotspur, while West Brom are surely all-but down as they were held 1-1 at home to another relegation-threatened side, Swansea City.

Huddersfield hold a five-point buffer over Stoke in 19th, although the Potters’ remaining fixtures offer hope with West Ham United (A), Burnley (H), Crystal Palace (H) and Swansea (A) still left to play.

Southampton right now appear to be Huddersfield’s main rivals for Premier League survival, and with two games in hand the Saints do have it in their own hands providing they pick up maximum points.

Southampton, though, have also found the net just once in their last five games, and with four of their remaining seven games to play away from home, they arguably have the worst run-in.
