Former player and current pundit Jamie Redknapp is backing Liverpool to beat Manchester United when the two Premier League title challengers face each other on Monday, Sky Sports reports.

The game at Anfield will be the first between Jose Mourinho and Jurgen Klopp as managers of United and Liverpool respectively and it is the latter who heads in to the encounter with a better head-to-head record.

Klopp leads Mourinho with three wins, one draw and one defeat from their five previous meetings, and that record on current form could be even better come the final whistle on Monday night.

The Reds have won their last four Premier League matches in succession while the Red Devils have just one win in that time, a 4-1 success over reigning champions Leicester City at Old Trafford.

Writing in his column for Sky Sports, Redknapp feels form and home advantage favours the hosts as he ultimately backs Liverpool to pick up all three points against their historic rivals.

“It should be a fantastic game – but it will be a huge test for United. You feel the momentum is with Liverpool. Their players are enjoying their football and neutrals are looking forward to watching them,” Redknapp said.

“Anything can happen in these games but I just feel Liverpool, with the form of their players, the home advantage and the momentum they have, will come out on top.”

Victory for Liverpool would see them join Manchester City and Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table with 19 points, while victory for United could see them move into the top four depending on goal difference.

Mourinho will be hoping his big-game experience will see his side nullify Liverpool’s attacking threats and make it a boring game, while most neutrals will be hoping for a somewhat different outcome.
