Nottingham Forest have several right-backs on their books for now.

Swansea City's Angel Rangel celebrates his sides victory after the Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Swansea City at Selhurst Park on August 26, 2017 in London, England.

According to a report in the Daily Mirror (November 17, Page 63), Nottingham Forest will return with an offer for Queens Park Rangers right-back Angel Rangel with his deal expiring in January.

The Hoops signed the 35-year-old on a short-term deal following his release from Swansea City, but after several impressive performances they now risk losing him to a potential Championship rival in January.

Rangel has started 13 games for QPR this season and drew high praise from manager Steve McClaren, but now he could soon depart Loftus Road with Nottingham Forest and Norwich City among those said to be interested.

In Forest’s case, signing him in January seems a bit of a stretch as manager Aitor Karanka currently has three right-backs on his books vying for a regular first-team spot.

West Ham United’s Sam Byram and Porto’s Swiss fullback Saidy Janko are currently on loan, and these two are struggling for game-time with Tendayi Darikwa regularly named as the club’s first-choice right-back. And even if the loan duo depart in January, and Forest do end up signing Rangel, the Spaniard isn’t likely to displace Darikwa who right now is arguably in the best form of his career.

Darikwa is statistically Forest’s most impressive player according to Whoscored, while in his last four Championship appearances – including games against fellow top six sides Leeds United and Sheffield United – the Reds have picked up two wins and two draws.

Rangel would be a sound addition at the City Ground – providing the loan duo leave and Forest are down to just one senior right-back – but if that isn’t the case, their reported interest seems somewhat strange.
