Ipswich Town have been linked with Brentford’s Alan Judge.
According to a report in the East Anglian Daily Times, Ipswich Town are keen on signing Brentford’s Alan Judge on a permanent deal with the player’s contract at Griffin Park set to expire next summer.
The report claims the 30-year-old is out of favour at Brentford and Ipswich are looking to buy him out of his contract and offer him a short deal until the end of the current campaign.
Judge was once one of the Championship’s leading play-makers, scoring 14 goals for Brentford in the 2015/16 campaign before suffering a broken leg, incidentally in a game against Ipswich at Portman Road.
He was out of action for over two years before returning in 2018 and has gone on to make just three starts and several substitute appearances for Brentford this season.
Prior to joining Brentford from Blackburn back in 2014, Judge was reportedly linked with a move to Ipswich and former Town boss Mick McCarthy later told reporters how he thought Judge was set to join him at Portman Road.
“Judgey, who we had in the door here, and spoke to, and who we thought we were signing – he’s the one who seems to be ripping it up for them [Brentford],” McCarthy told the Ipswich Star back in 2016.
Ipswich are in dire need now of adding quality to their ranks as they sit bottom of the Championship, ten points from safety. Paul Lambert has gone about strengthening Ipswich’s squad this month, bringing in James Collins, Simon Dawkins, Callum Elder, Collin Quaner and Will Keane with the latter joining on loan from Hull City.
Judge has the raw ability to potentially be their best signing of the transfer window, but much would depend on whether he could reproduce the performances of a few years ago and how his fitness would hold up.
