Norwich City beat Ipswich Town 3-0 at Carrow Road.
Ipswich Town manager Paul Lambert says only time will tell if Norwich City are good enough for promotion, before suggesting his former club were fortunate to run out 3-0 winners against the Tractor Boys, East Anglian Daily Times reports.
“Norwich have a bit of momentum. Are they good enough to do it? I don’t know. Time will tell. I’m sure Leeds, West Brom, Middlesbrough and Sheffield United – all them teams – will have something to say about that,” Lambert responded.
“There was nothing in it, absolutely nothing in it. We came here and played well, we had a lot of the ball and we made it a fight. If you looked at the two teams you wouldn’t think there was that disparity – but there is.”
Norwich hosted the Championship’s bottom club Ipswich knowing victory would take them back to the top of the table following Leeds United’s draw at Middlesbrough on Saturday.
The Canaries were not at their fluent best, but goals from Onel Hernandez and Teemu Pukki (2) secured bragging rights for the Norfolk side and an important three points in their bid for promotion.
Ipswich boss Paul Lambert enjoyed great success as Norwich manager, taking the club from League One to the Premier League in successive seasons before consolidating them in the top flight.
Norwich have since yo-yoed between the Championship and the Premier League, and Sunday’s victory over their biggest rivals has put them five points clear of Sheffield United in third place with only 15 games remaining.
Should Derby County and Bristol City win their game in hand, the two clubs would move within seven points of Norwich and potentially set up a close fight for automatic promotion involving as many as seven teams.
As for Ipswich, defeat leaves them nine points adrift of safety as relegation to League One now appears a likely scenario.
