Former Ipswich Town man Darren Bent has been talked up a return to Portman Road.
Ipswich Town manager Paul Hurst has told reporters that he has not seen any free agents out there who can benefit his side amid links to former Town striker Darren Bent, the East Anglian Daily Times reports.
“I was told we were linked with a couple of players and all of a sudden agents are asking me if I want this player and that player,” Hurst explained.
“I’m confident in those two [Freddie Sears and Kayden Jackson] so I don’t really see anything happening to be honest, despite what one or two agents or reports suggest.”
“I’ve genuinely had nothing come to my attention that I believe will benefit us so it’s a case of ‘as we are’. Depending on who it is, maybe there’s a reason why they’re a free agent.”
Ipswich have struggled for goals this season, netting just 11 times in 12 Championship games to date, leaving the Tractor Boys in the bottom three despite a recent 3-2 win over Swansea City.
As such, there have been reports of potentially moving for former Ipswich striker Darren Bent, with the striker recently telling the East Anglian Daily Times how a return to Portman Road would interest him.
“As I say, I’d definitely love to have a conversation with Ipswich. The team hasn’t got off to the best of starts and it would be nice to try and help out if they need another striker,” Bent remarked.
The former England international boasts plenty of experience and once cost Aston Villa a club record £24 million (Guardian) back in 2011 as he moved to Villa Park from Sunderland.
But Bent has lost his natural pace and quick movement from those days, with his latest stint coming on loan at Burton Albion from Derby County, where he netted just twice in 15 league games.
Turning 35 next February, Bent is currently without a club and seemingly not of interest to Ipswich as they seek to build on their win at Swansea and climb the Championship table.
