Nottingham Forest’s Daryl Murphy used to play for Ipswich Town.
Ipswich Town manager Paul Lambert has seemingly cooled talk of potentially signing Nottingham Forest’s Daryl Murphy by questioning his age and current wages, East Anglian Daily Times reports.
“The lad was a good player but I don’t know because he’s older now. Money-wise you never know until wages get put on the table, but people need to get their heads round that we won’t be getting masses,” Lambert said.
“I’m really happy with the guys and the way they’ve performed but if we can try and get one or two in to give them a boost then we will try.”
A recent report in the Irish Sun claimed newly-appointed Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi has placed Murphy on the transfer list as he looks to make space for new arrivals at the City Ground.
Murphy arrived at Forest from Newcastle United two years ago for a reported £2 million fee. He wasn’t a Martin O’Neill signing, but he worked well with his fellow Irishman before O’Neill was dismissed this summer.
Ipswich have been keen to strengthen this summer as they look to bounce back to the Championship at the first attempt following their relegation to League One.
The Tractor Boys have already bolstered their attacking ranks with the addition of James Norwood. The former Tranmere Rovers striker topped the League Two scoring charts last season.
Murphy, 36, hit 27 goals for Ipswich during the 2014-15 campaign. He is a popular figure at Portman Road, but now at 36 he is past his best and his current wages may make him a difficult player to sign this summer.
