Norwich City’s Ben Godfrey was outstanding in the win at Blackburn Rovers on Saturday.

Norwich City youngster Ben Godfrey had arguably the best game of his career to date, as he contributed greatly to his side’s slender 1-0 victory over Championship opponents Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.
The Canaries travelled to Lancashire without experienced Timm Klose, as the Swiss defender hadn’t recoveres from injury to feature against Tony Mowbray’s Rovers.
Many Norwich fans expected former Blackburn defender Grant Hanley to come in instead, following his return to action, but manager Daniel Farke opted to stick with youngster Godfrey alongside Christoph Zimmermann.
Godfrey, 20, was outstanding as he recorded three interceptions and five effective clearances, while also averaging a 91.2% pass-accuracy rate – second best at Ewood Park only to Moritz Leitner (Whoscored).
Norwich supporters took to Twitter to praise the youngster, and a succession of performances of that ilk could see him establish himself as a long-term replacement for Klose, the Canaries’ skipper.

Klose turns 31 in May (and his contract expires at the end of the season) and was linked with a move to Hannover last summer (Bild). The German publication claimed Norwich’s asking price was too high at the time, but that won’t be an issue next summer.
The defender is free to talk to clubs as early as January, therefore Norwich must weigh up the situation and giving Godfrey more starts between now and the end of the season could be in their best interests.
