Hull City’s Fraizer Campbell’s contract expires this summer.
Hull City striker Fraizer Campbell has suggested he could leave the club this summer after the Championship side opted against triggering a 12-month extension to his contract, Hull Daily Mail reports.
“There was an optional year in my contract which the club have decided not to take up so I’m in limbo,” he explained.
“I enjoy playing so if they want me to stay and play football I’ll do that, but if not I’ll go elsewhere and play football with a smile on my face.”
Campbell, 31, is out of contract this summer and Hull’s financial position suggests they may opt against retaining him despite his impressive performances this season.
The former Manchester United man has scored 11 goals and grabbed three assists in 24 Championship starts this season. He is Hull’s second highest scorer behind the talented Jarrod Bowen.
But Hull City’s owners are actively looking to sell the club, and as such they appear unwilling to invest any more despite the Tigers not being far off reaching the play-offs this season.
Manager Nigel Adkins has guided Hull away from the drop zone and they now sit safely in 12th spot, six points behind the top six with just eight games of the season remaining.
Strengthening the side in the summer could put Hull among the contenders next term but losing Campbell would create a void up front, with Chris Martin only on loan from Derby County and Nouha Dicko out of favour.
