Hull City have been linked with Aberdeen’s Graeme Shinnie.
According to a report in the Scottish Sun, Hull City and fellow Championship side Brentford are monitoring Graeme Shinnie’s situation at Aberdeen.
The report states that Shinnie’s contract at the Dons expires in the summer and he is now free to talk to clubs, but the Scottish Club may feel it’s in their best interest to sell him in January rather than risk losing him for nothing a few months later.
Hull City have been in incredible form in the Championship over the past six weeks, winning five games on the spin and picking up a total of 27 points from their last 12 league games.
The Tigers have climbed the table and put themselves in contention for a potential playoff place – they now sit just seven points adrift of the top six. But to maintain momentum they must strengthen in January. Manager Nigel Adkins has worked wonders with Hull’s tight budget, and their best hope this month is to either pick up one or two excellent loan deals or to find potential bargains, such as Shinnie.
The Aberdeen captain can play at left-back or in midfield, and this season he has predominantly played as a holding midfielder – a position Hull must look at strengthening.
The Tigers have played several midfield combinations this season as they look to settle on a team, and in recent games Kevin Stewart has been given the nod, despite having just seven starts to his name all season.
Shinnie could bolster that Hull midfield and provide more options, giving the defenders a bit more protection and allowing the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Kamil Grosicki and Fraizer Campbell more freedom in the final third.
Potentially available at a cut-price, the Scotland international would be an astute addition.
