Hull City have been linked with Rotherham United’s Michael Smith.
Hull City manager Nigel Adkins has suggested his side would struggle to sign Rotherham United’s Michael Smith this month as he will be valued too highly by the Millers, the Hull Daily Mail reports.
“We won’t be looking to sign him [Michael Smith] but he’s another player that’s being linked. A big centre forward at Rotherham, leading the line for them, very important to the way they play. From that point of view he’ll command a very big transfer fee, even if you were interested in him,” Adkins explained to the Hull Daily Mail.
A recent report by Here Is The City stated Adkins has made signing a new centre-forward a top priority this month, with Smith emerging as a top target.
The former Bury man stands at 6ft 3inch, and has five league goals to his name this season. Smith’s most impressive statistic, though, is his average 8.2 aerial winners per Championship encounter.
The 27-year-old is the ideal focal point upfront for Rotherham’s direct style of play, and Paul Warne’s side may see Smith as an indispensable member in their bid to preserve their Championship status this term.
The Millers are currently two points above the drop zone with 18 games to play.
Hull, on the other hand, are on an excellent run of form picking up 19 points from their last seven games. After previously struggling in the bottom six, the Tigers now find themselves on the cusp of the playoffs.
Adding another striker to join the likes of Jarrod Bowen, Fraizer Campbell and Kamil Grosicki in attack could see them challenge the likes of Derby County and Middlesbrough for a top six spot come May.
