Liverpool have been linked with Bayern Munich’s Mario Gotze.
According to a previous report in Bild, Liverpool want to sign Bayern Munich’s Mario Gotze this summer.
The German publication stated that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp wants a dream reunion with the German international at Anfield, having already worked with the forward at Borussia Dortmund.
Gotze, a German international icon who scored the winning goal in the 2014 World Cup final in Brazil, has an abundance of talent yet his future at Bayern has largely been questioned due to a lack of games.
The 23-year-old has made just eight Bundesliga appearances this season, and it’s obvious his situation with boss Pep Guardiola isn’t exactly one of joy as he expressed last August.
“The last two years were definitely not very simple. It will work out if Guardiola talks to me more often. I’m going to let everything come to me,” he was quoted as saying by the Independent.
With just five league starts since last August, Liverpool’s chances of signing Gotze would have been boosted tenfold on the condition that Guardiola remains in Bavaria beyond the season.
However, Manchester City’s impending appointment of Guardiola may have inadvertently blocked Liverpool’s dream summer transfer, with Gotze now likely to feature more regularly as of next season.
Guardiola’s successor in Bavaria, Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti, prefers counter-attacking football as opposed to a relentless possession-based style and that will suit the former Dortmund academy product.
Gotze has never really got to grips with Guardiola’s methods, yet under Ancelotti he has all the attributes to thrive and the former Real Madrid man will no doubt see him as a key player under his tenure.
While a Gotze switch to Anfield can’t be ruled out this summer, it’s perhaps now going to be a lot more difficult for Klopp to prize him away from the Allianz Arena.
