Arsenal lost the Carabao Cup final 3-0 to Manchester City.

Pundit Gary Neville looks on prior to the Premier League match between West Bromwich Albion and Arsenal at The Hawthorns on December 31, 2017 in West Bromwich, England.

Former Manchester United player Gary Neville has continued to bash Arsenal as he claims Salford City have not played as bad as Arsenal did in the Carabao Cup final in the three years since investing in the club.

The Gunners, having won three FA Cups in four years, headed in to the Carabao Cup final with a decent Wembley record but in the end, they were swept aside by a rampant Manchester City team.

Pep Guardiola’s men ran out 3-0 winners with goals from Sergio Aguero, Vincent Kompany and David Silva, and the manner of Arsenal’s defeat caused quite a stir among pundits and supporters alike.

Arsene Wenger manager

Neville, a regular for United during their heated rivalries against Arsenal, was on co-commentary duty and could not help but aim digs at the North London side’s character and apparent lack of heart.

Arsenal were without doubt second best against City in the second period at Wembley, but it was their perceived lack of effort in trying to get back into the game that riled so many people up.

Responding to a question from fellow Sky Sports presenter Jaime Carragher, Neville claims over the past three years he has never seen Salford City perform quite as miserably as Arsenal did over the weekend.

The former England international right-back may hold a bit of a grudge over the Gunners due to the rivalry he shared as a player, but perhaps few could argue with his analysis of their cup final performance.

Arsene Wenger’s men looked a beaten side the moment Vincent Kompany made it 2-0 to City just after half-time, and that same defeatist attitude is one which Arsenal supporters have become accustomed to in recent years.

The problems seem to stem from the very top, with the club giving freedom to Wenger to leave on his own terms and it has no doubt caused complacency to filter through what once was a Premier League title-challenging club.
