Liverpool’s James Milner was excellent as his side beat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Wembley Saturday, and are joint top of the Premier League.

MOTD pundit Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to admit he was wrong for previously questioning Milner’s ability, saying that the Liverpool man as terrific, versatile and intelligent against Tottenham.
MIlner doesn’t score many goals, doesn’t grab many assists – and for England he was always overshadowed by the likes of Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard.
But Milner does have several qualities, and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is seemingly getting the best out of him as the 32-year-old consistently puts in impressive and highly energetic performances.
Here’s is what Lineker had to say following the Reds’ victory:
Milner was influential as his side displayed their Premier League title credentials by beating a direct title rival – although once again it is his more high-profile teammates who will grab the headlines.
Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah were a constant threat throughout the game, yet Milner was arguably the best player on the pitch, as he recorded more key passes (3) and more tackles (5) than Spurs’ entire midfield combined (Whoscored).

The midfielder’s boundless energy defies his age – especially considering the pace of the English game – and his intelligence both on and off the ball is a trait which is largely overlooked.
Milner, a two-time Premier League winner with Manchester City, is a key figure at Liverpool, and his presence in midfield will be needed if the Merseysiders have real intentions of lifting the title this season.
