Bolton Wanderers lost 1-0 at home to Hull City Saturday.
Some Bolton Wanderers supporters have taken to Twitter to criticise the performance of makeshift defender Marc Wilson following his side’s disappointing 1-0 defeat to Hull City.
In a bid to turn the tide, Bolton Wanderers boss Phil Parkinson made several changes from the side that lost 3-0 at home to Nottingham Forest in midweek, with Wilson coming back in to the starting XI.
Parkinson’s intentions were good, but the natural centre-back looked out of place in a back three and was found wanting when up against the pacey Fraizer Campbell.
Taking to social media at the full-time whistle, Bolton fans weren’t happy with the 31-year-old’s performance.
Wilson managed just a 65.1% pass completion rate against Hull (Whoscored), and was often pulled out of position by the pace of Hull’s forwards on the counterattack, after Campbell had given the Tigers a first-half lead.
The Trotters ended up with the lion’s share of the possession while taking more shots than Hull, but they rarely looked like scoring and putting an end to a poor run of just one win in their last ten league games.
Parkinson is coming under increasing pressure from the supporters to play a better brand of football, while from an attacking sense they’ve managed just two leagues goals in their last eight matches.
It was a brave decision and a roll of the dice to change formation against Hull by going to three at the back, but for all Bolton’s endeavour, it rarely looked like being their day.
The defeat leaves the Lancashire side in 19th position in the Championship table, four points above the drop zone.
